Eventually the developmental economists came to realize that their original goals were simply unrealistic if not unattainable. They started to change their direction in terms of basic, more specific needs such as housing, education, nutrition and public health. The economists had the right intentions in mind but underestimated and poorly understood the complications and obstacles that were to arise.
